My Project
I am a speech pathologist working within the self contained CSS - Communication and Social Skills - classroom. I love having the opportunity to provide students the first chance to advocate for themselves and learning their first words so that they can say "no". My heart is specializing in using AAC, Augmentative Alternative Communication, to provide children a voice. I want to find whatever works for each child, in a very calm and affirming way, to make them successful and strong in the classroom. My goal is for my students to not just state random facts but to learn life skills that will bring them happiness long-term in life.

This year I am in a new classroom with limited hands-on manipulatives for my students to use while learning. With my students it is especially important to have hands on opportunities to not only keep their interest but to help them to focus on and act out the vocabulary and language concepts being taught. The requested 5mil laminate will be used in creating my own materials for the classroom. The language lotto, sight word sentence builder, picnic baskets and color sorting crayons all include mini objects which help provide picture to object correspondence while learning vocabulary. Additionally, the shark bite and banana blast games will be used to help teach social skills, turn taking and the social emotional regulation that we cannot win every game we play. These are such important life skills to help master at a young age.
