Language Supports for Immigrant Students

Help me give my students the gift of communication. With students that do not speak a common language with any other students, these translators will help them adapt easier and help expand my other students' worlds.

My Students

I am a math and science teacher with a diverse group of students from a wide range of socioeconomic statuses, backgrounds, and educational needs.

My class has received a student from Brazil that does not speak any English.

My school does not have anyone that speaks Portuguese. Language supports would help this student adapt and learn English, and help the other students grow and learn another language.

My Project

I have chosen 3 pocket translators to help these students communicate. 1 is for the non-English speaking students, one is for the teacher they are with, and the third is for their student partners.

Having pocket translators available to my non-English speaking students, their peers, and their teachers will help them communicate and grow quickly.

This will help teachers and peers create an inclusive environment, and help the students to have their social-emotional needs met on a day-to-day basis at school. School can be scary at this age, even when the students are English speaking.
