This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Enrollment of English language learners is at an all time high in many New York City schools and others around the country. In my school, most of the ELL students come from Arabic or Urdu speaking countries. Other students speak Uzbeki, Mandarin, Bengali, Spanish or Russian. Although their native languages are different, all of my ELL student want to learn! In the current anti-immigration society we live in, showing these children that they matter is very important to me. I myself was an English Language Learner in the NYC public school system. I see myself in each of the children I teach. They deserve every opportunity to learn and succeed.
My Project
An ipad is one resource that is able to help all the English Language Learners in a school. It will help students from kindergarten to 5th grade. Students will be able to play different apps depending on their language level. Other resources usually target certain grades of language levels. This makes learning interactively limited.
An ipad would make learning interactive.
As the English as a New Language teacher, I have a small room without a smart board. Many times, I have to use my desktop to show students videos or pictures of the vocabulary we are learning. My children have to all stand around my computer to watch the videos. They don't have much access to online games because there is only one computer in room. With an ipad I can rotate the children so that more of them get some interactive learning time.
