Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Boisterous. Precocious. Creative. With these character traits and their innate talents, my students have created a classroom community and environment that makes learning fun and enjoyable--every. single. day. They have combined music and dance in their communication with me, as a new teacher to both middle school and the campus itself. Their willingness to teach me the Fortnight dances has helped us connect interpersonally as a group, and I have learned how intelligently they have combined their talents, as actors and dancers, with their educational goals. To this end, I would like to incorporate the fine arts with my instructional objectives and their desire to create artwork.

In short, we want to fill in this creative gap.

Their talents shouldn't be stifled by the absence of this elective. We are not aiming to have the perfect classroom--we just want the opportunity to feel whole.

My Project

With the fine arts, students will be able to express and develop their language and literary skills as they present, display, and make connections through their individual art pieces. As they see--not just in writing--how interpretations of each narrative differ, they will more adeptly extend their understanding of various narratives in and through artwork.

Using oil pastels, water colors, and paints, our students will learn about, practice, and combine--as mixed media--a variety of techniques that will enhance their creative growth and literary development as writers and thinkers.

Through abstract art, realism, and post-structuralist study, students will apply their skills in these areas to produce imagined characters and landscapes, as well as inferred literary elements.

You can make all of this happen!
