My students need a set of colored handbells with hand bell song cards, 24 egg shakers, a set of boom whackers, 5 Dr. Jean CDs, a wooden drum, and a boom whackers activity CD.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach Kindergarten at a Title One school in New Mexico. My school is 100% free lunch and breakfast. I love the community I work in, the families are just wonderful, although many are greatly affected by poverty. Many of my students are learning English as a second language.
My Kindergarten children are very musical and love to sing and dance. Due to budget cuts and other factors, my students only get music 30 minutes per week and only every other year. Quite frankly, this is not enough. Music, used with instruments, dance, and movement boosts oral language and vocabulary skills. My students love music!
I recently got to see Dr. Jean, in Washington D.C. at the NAEYC conference. She was amazing, and I purchased 2 Cd's, my students just love her music! My students will drop everything to go sing and dance their ABC's. They love to do rhythm exercises as well. The instruments and Dr. Jean Cd's in this proposal will greatly affect my students language skills!
Thank you for making music in my classroom a growing and continually progressing part of my curriculum. This is the 3rd music project I've been able to write, because of generous people like you on Donors Choose! Thank you again!
