I have an amazing, diverse, class of preschoolers. They are always making me laugh and showing me what life is all about. They are so special in so many ways from their sense of humor, to their stubbornness, to their kindness. For example, one day during arrival, one student was sobbing due to separating from his mom when another student, who was also sobbing for the same reason came in. He quickly went over to her, still sobbing, and began to rub her back. Although he is still learning how to communicate with his words, he showed empathy for his fellow classmate. That is priceless. Besides the social emotional development they are experiencing, they also love to create and pretend. They are the best! I am lucky to be their teacher!
My Project
I have chosen materials that will help strengthen my students' fine motor skills, encourage language development and provide endless opportunities for creative, collaborative play. These materials were chosen based on the developmental needs of my students. Many of my students struggle with language development, so by giving them materials that encourage language development they have more opportunities to learn to speak. These materials also encourage cooperative play so they can have many opportunities for social interactions. The various families for dollhouse also represent the diverse class we have. The dolls will provide the students with families that are like their own that they can relate or connect with. Through dollhouse play, language development happens naturally.
