Language Learners Will Benefit From a Listening Center.

Our students need three listening centers to develop their listening comprehension skills in Foreign Language.

Give high school students the total classroom experience... I am the only French teacher of 9-12th graders. I teach 7 classes per day - 4 different levels: Year I (3 classes), Year II, Honors II, Honors III, and Academic Extension Tutoring at the end of the day.

Being the only French teacher and having so many different levels of study (not to mention various learning styles) I cannot always teach everyone the same thing at the same time. I have to differentiate my instruction. My school/district barely has the funds to supply our basic needs, like workbooks for the students, so they definitely cannot provide us with AV equipment.

When I first began language study in high school, we had a language lab where we could engage in listening practice, and it was a huge help. I would like our students to have the same opportunity. They will enjoy their classes more and be able to work at their own pace as opposed to working in 'herds' as I attempt to teach everyone as one unit. Listening comprehension is a primary skill in learning any language and must be integrated into the curriculum via multiple methods. Our department truly needs this.

However, due to the overcrowding of schools and lack of funding, many of the resources that our schools once had are being taken away as each year goes by.
