Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are second language learners. Many of them do not have books at home. They could benefit enormously with these language materials.
My students are from Hispanic backgrounds.
They are the children of immigrants who came to this country in search of a better future. Their parents are very supportive, but they do not have the economic resources to buy school materials. My students believe they could have a better future if they could attend college, and I am doing everything I can to support them.
My Project
With these language materials, my students will be able to practice everything related to the subject of language arts: reading comprehension, writing, grammar, vocabulary, and spelling. These materials include spelling, phonic, vocabulary, grammar, and reading comprehension cards, and language games such as the cause and effect match up activity. They also include writing practice such as daily paragraph editing, magnetic letters to practice spelling, binders to keep students' work organized, and dry erase markers to be used with small white boards. These listed last are almost indispensable since students' engagement is very high when they use their small white boards during different language lessons. We have a readers' workshop every day, and students read books at their level, write, and do independent activities while working cooperatively in small groups. With these materials my students will have the opportunity to engage in meaningful learning.
I truly believe that language is power.
This is the reason I gave this name to my project. My students need to master different language skills because each of these represents one step closer to their dream: college.
