This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Research shows that visuals help beginning language learners grow their vocabulary immensely. My newcomer students need as much support as possible in building their English vocabulary. Opportunities to practice listening and speaking are another important aspect of building their language skills. The materials I am requesting will help my students with both vocabulary development and give them the resources they need to utilize classroom listening and speaking programs.
My goal is to give my students more confidence in their English abilities.
Currently, I have 10 Oxford Picture Dictionaries that I split between two classes that total 32 students (and I'm sure my classes will grow). I have about 10 sets of district-issued headphones for each class (housed at two separate campuses). It simply is not enough; I have asked for more books and headsets, but the likelihood of getting them is slim to none right now.
My classroom motto is that practice makes progress. If students have the tools and resources they need to practice, they will have more opportunities to practice, make more progress, and build their confidence in English. Your support in this project will be essential in helping my students reach their goals.
