My Students

My students are incredible movers and shakers who also happen to have a speech or language impairment- which affords me the privilege of working with them! These wonderful students often need to learn in more individualized ways. This project is primarily for students who need the additional support of a special education class most of their day.

My Project

I am one of three speech language pathologists in my school. Each week, we host an in-class language group to teach new skills and generalize mastered skills to our students in their classroom.

We know that literacy is a building block for so many essential skills so each language group begins with a book!

Students learn well when they are able to be involved and hands-on so each language group also has a craft or activity they can participate in.

Parent involvement is an essential part of what we do. Parents will receive a brightly colored sheet with what we worked on, what book we read, the activities their child participated in, and how to extend these skills at home!

These materials will provide activities for new and enriching language groups for the next semester. Some of these materials will be used for the hands on portion that relates to the book, like a racetrack, stickers, crafting, or magnets. While other items will be used to support parents to practice these new skills with their children. Every contribution makes a difference to support early childhood speech and language development!
