My students are between the ages of 3 to 5 years. There is a lot of movement. Their little bodies are not made for sitting in a chair for long periods of time.
We explore through play and by hands-on experiences.
It is hard to sit and listen, we need lots of visuals and materials to learn. Not only do we need lots of visuals and materials, we need a variety to keep things interesting.
I work with preschool special education students. We learn in many different ways. Every day is something different and we overcome many challenges.
My Project
As I am going into my fifth year of teaching, I have reflected on the skills that I know need improving on with my teaching. One area is literacy and language. I have plenty of manipulative to teach math, but I struggle with enough to have enough materials to teach language and literacy.
In the past I have done a literacy project that was funded, and now I would like to continue expanding our Literacy and Language skills.
This project can incorporate materials into different themes, but also help practice letters and letter sounds throughout the years. My students love using different kits to help with learning the alphabet, and I would like to continue with more hands on materials. I would also like to expand on their ability to tell stories and practice finger plays.
This project will help expand our skills in Language and Literacy. It will help improve an area that I would like to continue working on with my students.
