This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Have you ever experienced the challenges of learning a new language? My students are learning English for the first time in school.
We are a Title 1 school and many of our students are English Language Learners.
They show up to school ready to learn every morning. English is a difficult language to learn. As we know, the vowels in our English alphabet have over 12 different sounds! First grade is an important one since this is when most children learn how to read. That is a huge task in itself. Imagine for a moment having to learn to read AND at the same time learn a new language!
My Project
I am requesting 3 items that will target different areas of need. We need write and wipe letter practice cards and markers since we do have children who speak languages that use a different alphabet. We have also requested sentence building activities (to support syntax) and an oral language activity kit that will be used to reinforce sequencing, sight words and vocabulary.
Our English Language Learners are bright and eager to learn.
These activities will allow me to work with small groups and target specific areas of need as they acquire the English language. We are counting on you!
