My Students
My students are learning to trust their creative instincts and develop critical thinking skills. Every day, we build more and more successes in the art room! I teach art to K-8 students in a wonderful, large urban school with limited resources.
As I have been teaching the same students for several years, it has been very exciting to see their growth over time.
I love working with such amazing problem solvers and creative thinkers! My student population is around 715 students who come from a wide variety of backgrounds, culturally and geographically. My students speak 19 different languages!
My Project
I will be taking a painting course over the summer that is specifically geared towards practicing art educators. In this course, I will practice techniques that I will then be able to use with my students in my classroom.
Some focuses of this class that I will use with my students in my own classroom are reading the weather, reading light, color mixing, how to use a loose drawing to form a strong composition; and making color studies.
This is an online summer course on landscape painting. This course will be a good refresher for me on some more technical art making skills and techniques, so that i can better support my students in my art classes.
