There are 70 students who come into our classrooms that require specialized learning materials created specifically for their learning needs. These materials are not easily bought and are most often created by the teachers themselves. When we create materials we need them to last. Laminating our work in an important step in providing the best resources for our students with special learning needs.
There are 70 students on the autism spectrum in our classrooms.
We have a mixture of boys and girls, ages ranging from 5 to 13. Our students span the entire spectrum of autism. Our school is a mixture of a general education program and an autism program which allows our students the opportunity to be integrated into general education situations as often as possible. We are a low income school, servicing a majority of free and reduced-price lunch students.
My Project
When teaching students with autism we are often challenged with finding materials to use. We do not have access to general education materials and more often than not we are creating our own from scratch. The materials we make must last during repeated use over long periods of time.
Having access to a quality 40" laminating machine will allow me to create quality materials for my students that will last throughout the years.
Students are often unable to use pencil and paper so having durable manipulative pieces to assist with learning is very important. As teachers of students with autism we rely on laminating almost everything we use.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
