My students and I prefer practicing learned concepts in Math 1 with a game or fun activity. Although these activities are fun, they also require a lot of printing and cutting out. Oftentimes, I need to print out the materials for each of my five sections, and they end up recycled after using and writing on the materials in class once. Even when students don't need to write on the materials, like a game board, the paper copy quickly shows wear and tear from class to class.
Laminating activity materials will allow students to use the activities more often and allow me to reuse materials and save paper.
Not only will I need to print less copies for the current school year, but I will be able to reuse quality materials year to year. This also gives students the ability to write on the materials using dry-erase markers. Many students enjoy and prefer using dry-erase markers for practicing concepts. I have found that they are not as afraid to try a new problem and make mistakes because their work is easier to erase and seems less permanent.
