This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I am an art teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district where students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, I want things to remain simple in my classroom and I want to provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences.
My high school students are very creative in the arts (art and music).
They love to get a chance to express themselves. We are in need of art materials so they can be successful and as creative as possible in class and after-school art club. Students love to receive positive attention and praise from their mentors and peers. From the minute they walk in the door of my classroom, my goal is to focus on their potential and growth while they are with me. I highlight their strengths and try to make every student feel important. I may not be able to control their home lives, but I can certainly control their experience during the school day. By doing this in a creative and positive way, I am hoping to inspire our students to put their best self forward.
My Project
This will help us preserve our student examples and projects. We just received a brand new laminator for our art room and are excited to use it, but it did not come with rolls of laminate. We will use it for laminating student examples for year to come, as well as use it to protect certain pieces from getting wrinkled or ruined. I have used laminate in the pass to preserve pieces for art shows, even to make them waterproof for outside projects. Adding laminate to student work, makes the colors brighter and the students are more likely to take pride in their work and take their work home with them because it protects their piece as they walk home from school.
