My Students
I have seven students in a K-1 autism classroom. Most of my students have limited verbal skills and do not communicate much on their own. They have varying levels of academic skills and the majority are working on learning basic skills, as well as communication and social skills.
We have a structured routine throughout the day with many hands-on and independent activities.
We have a morning routine that students look forward to every day, independent work time where students practice working by themselves on skills they have mastered, and group time to work on academic skills and writing. Students have storytime to work on comprehension, math, science and art where we create creative and colorful projects using construction paper and follow picture directions. They have made so much progress so far this year with academic, social, and communication skills.
My Project
There are so many things in my classroom that I laminate it often feels like I'm in a repetitive process of laminating and repeating every week. The materials I make are used over and over so the process is worth it. Students are able to use the materials I laminate to learn alphabet letters and sounds, read stories, learn more about phonics and practice skills they are learning independently.
My students make so much progress by having a variety of hands on learning activities that are printed on cardstock on laminated.
This creates durable materials that last and can be used many times. My students need a variety of practice learning one skills so I have different materials they can use to work on mastering concepts. I have gone through a lot of laminating sheets so far this school year and am in need of more to continue making materials for the rest of the school year. These are the supplies that fuel our classroom and help students become successful on their learning adventure.
