My Project
Lamarque Elementary School is a Title 1 school in North Port, FL with 1200 students. We currently have 8770 books in our school library, and the average age of our books is 2008(very outdated collection)! Our school opened in 2006 and we are currently trying to refresh our library space and books for all of our students to enjoy up to date information and books. The books on this list are part of the Sunshine State Young Reader's Association(SSYRA) and we make a BIG deal about these books at Lamarque! These are books that are selected by 10 librarians from around Florida and are featured by the state each year. Last year, the SSRYA books were the MOST read books in the library and the students absolutely love them! We make a challenge to see how many each class level can read and sometimes even the teachers join in. It is a lot of fun! Buying books for 1200 students can get a little pricey, so I made this list in hopes of receiving some help with the purchases. Any and all donations are GREATLY appreciated by not only myself, but everyone here at Lamarque Elementary School!
