My Students
The students I teach are between 10th and 12th grade. The students in my class have a clinical diagnosis of severe emotional disturbance. They are in a single classroom all day because they have a hard time interacting with peers and adults.
I am entering my 6th year as an ED teacher, and they are the most inspirational students I know.
They all have hardships at home. Their lives are filled with poverty, drugs, gangs, and myself, who thinks the world of them. I will have these students benefit from these supplies for the next one to three years for a long time. Our school is a career tech high school, and all of our students are being educated to be career and college-ready.
Typically, my students are referred to as the "Bad Student," which is the farthest from the truth. They need someone on their side. In our class, we have created that space for our students. Now that they feel comfortable with us, we want to give them the same opportunity as their peers. We believe in them.
My Project
My amazing students have been working hard completing assignments pushed out to them on Schoology and through mailed paper resources. However, it is in my teacher's nature to provide them with more authentic, differentiated instruction. Thankfully most students have the resources to Teams or watch short video clips my para, and I provide them, but I still crave more genuine interaction!
These tools will replicate our classroom experiences and help maintain a sense of normalcy in this time of uncertainty for our students.
One of my biggest issues with this while working from my new office. My video quality isn’t the best, and I often find myself walking around, computer in hand, trying to find the best location to set up my teaching resources.
This project will provide me with a tripod's stability and an awesome ring light to produce quality mini-lessons or live interactions with my students. With this hands-free video capability, I will record lessons, reading passages, demonstrations, or have meaningful interactions with my students that they can clearly see! The best part? These lessons will be available for students to view on their own time. Many of my students have parents who are essential workers or have 2-3 children to help work through assignments, so it is not expected they meet with me at a certain time. Instead, with these tools, I can assist my students with their distance learning at a time that is convenient for them. I have also included a laptop raiser to better place my laptop and cords to connect to the desktop.
