My Project
In my ELA 9 and 10 classes, the smartboard is the center of learning. Yet, because of resource issues on campus, the smart board in my classroom must be removed. Please help us get another one!
A smart board is an excellent way to display lessons and films in the class and it can be moved around easily to support the learning activity and grouping each day.
In my class I ask students to practice active reading, requiring them to mark up and annotate their short stories, articles, and novels; it has been incredibly helpful and effective to model this on a digital copy of the text while discussing the meaning and intention of my own lines, circles, and margin notes. Giving students the opportunity to come up to the smart board and mark up sentences and larger portions of text creates a kind of excitement about learning and textual literacy that is just not possible with old whiteboards and expo pens.
The smart board has made it easier to reach students at multiple learning levels. On the large bright screen, abstract ideas like adjectives, verbs, and dependent clauses become more tangible and legible to a wider range of learners. Switching to new content is quick, easy, and natural, conserving class time and student attention. One of the most critical features is the ability to display live translations for my English Language Learners. Students who are still learning English have a better opportunity to engage with the content of my course and actively participate in the lesson.
Please consider funding this project for my students!
