To many, our needs may seem microscopic...
We are the College Preparatory Science Learning Community. We are the class of 2018 and 2019 (the years we will graduate from college). We are at a high poverty middle school in NY, and we are looking for some microscopes from a donor like you!
As a new teacher entering this school, I am quickly discovering that students are brilliant yet science instruction has been limited in the past due to lack of resources. We have done our best to get creative in our experiments with the funds we have, but microscopes are a necessity I cannot make from a shoebox or tin can, and cannot afford on my teacher salary.
Using microscopes is an essential skill on the state test for middle schoolers, and much more importantly is a wonderful opportunity for investigation and inquiry based learning. By getting microscopes in the classroom, students will be able to explore various cells up close and gain a deeper understanding of science and of life. We are really excited about this possibility!
My students have written that science is important because it helps solve problems in the world. They have written about their desire to find a cure for cancer and AIDS, to be surgeons and dermatologists. Please help them take the first step towards achieving their goals!
