Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am a preschool teacher who just began working in a dual language program. Until now I have only taught in English‑language classrooms and have spent years building and curating my classroom library. This year I was moved to a Spanish‑immersion classroom and most of my books are in English.

Replacing my library with dual‑language editions is costly and many titles aren’t available in Spanish or other home languages, so adding removable laser‑printed bilingual labels lets me adapt my existing collection without repurchasing books.

I love my students and feel privileged to watch them grow each day. Several of my students receive special education services and need sturdy board books so they can practice handling books with care. My students demonstrate a wide range of strengths and needs—some are very clever and eagerly engage with picture books that pair images and words, while others need much more support. Regardless of ability, every child benefits from a print‑rich environment that reflects their languages and cultures.

Removable bilingual labels will increase access to meaning by connecting familiar home‑language vocabulary to a book’s content, supporting comprehension even when the text is in English. These labels will also validate children’s identities and build belonging. By displaying family languages in the classroom, we show respect for cultures and encourage engagement and confidence with books.

These tags are small but mighty: they strengthen family–school connections and support at‑home reading routines by helping caregivers find books their child recognizes and by connecting home‑language vocabulary to the book’s content to boost comprehension. Overall, removable bilingual book tags are an affordable, flexible solution that preserves my years of work curating the library, saves time and money, and transforms my English collection into an accessible, affirming bilingual resource that meets the diverse needs of every child in my classroom.
