My Students

As a teacher in a low-income, high poverty school district, I recognize that my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to keep things simple and provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences.

Many of my students have so much to deal with outside of the classroom, things like domestic abuse, foster care, not knowing where they will sleep or even find their next meal.

Not to mention what they made on their science test. I want to offer my students a safe place to write. A place between me and them where they can tell me about the good, the bad, and the ugly. This may not be something for all students but many students need an outlet right now and I am hoping to give them just that!

My Project

I am looking for a way to organize my classroom and make it more science friendly. I currently have desks and as you may know desks are hard for collaboration when trying to do experiments. Lab tables will allow for students to be able to be at the same table and things will not be jostled around. This means less spills and more fun as well as learning will be had by all.

Lab tables will allow for students to stay organized instead of losing things inside of a desk.

Our students rotate and so it is nice not to have messy desks with random things pushed and shoved inside. This will also help my special needs students not become unorganized and lose their things as well as allow for an inclusion teacher to join their table instead of having to pull students to another part of the classroom.
