My students need basic classroom supplies like calculators, pens, pencils and highlighters.
They also need lab specific items such as scratch plates and slinkies.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are learning about Earth Science. Every day we learn about different topics that relate to the world around us in Earth Science.
My students attend a CTE high school where they take both academic and career track classes.
All of my students are enrolled in a vocational trade class as well and many of them go on to work in their fields. We are a small high school situation on Staten Island in a low income neighborhood.
My Project
My students will be able to participate in hands-on activities with these supplies.
Part of the course requirement is hands-on lab time. In order to better meet the needs of the students we need materials.
We need a slinky to demonstrate the different type of earthquake waves. We need compasses to map the location of Earthquake epicenters.
We need basic classroom supplies such as calculators to calculate gradient, ellipses and rates of change.
Having these materials available in our classroom will let students fully participate in lab activities.
Currently our supplies are limited and we are working with broken calculators, rules and compasses.
Having these materials would make sure that each and every student has access to the materials they need in lab and every day in class.
