Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
The lab equipment is needed because we don't have enough, or it is old and needs to be replaced. This shortage of equipment leads to bigger lab groups and inattentiveness because there are too many students and not enough "jobs" for everyone to be an active participant.
Who didn't love going to science class when dissection labs were being done?
Dissection kits will give my students a tactile approach to the study of organs and systems. This hands-on approach when linked to the theoretical knowledge found in books and other reference materials, leads to better comprehension. The goal of dissections is to help students identify and compare organs, understand the structure and functions of organs, how organs work together to maintain homeostasis and explore comparative anatomy between different species. Dissections may also lead to interest in careers in science or in health.
My students are full of curiosity and an endless amount of energy. They come in so excited when they see new lab equipment out because they know we are doing a lab. Reading, doing worksheets, listening to a lecture, or watching a video is not the way most students learn. Group activities and labs such as dissections promote cooperation, and teamwork, and they enhance communication skills.
