This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Help my kindergarteners be "krafty" and "kreative." My students need engaging art supplies that will allow them to explore art, express themselves, and learn at the same time!

I teach kindergarten at an urban public school in Illinois.

We have 34 kindergarteners in our classroom. Almost all of my students speak English as their second language, and most are bilingual in English and Spanish. All of my students receive a free breakfast, that we eat in the classroom each morning, and most students qualify for free or reduced lunch.

My Project

I have asked for a wide variety of art and craft supplies so that my kindergarteners can really get into some art projects and express themselves! Kindergarten graduation is fast approaching and very important to my students and their families. I asked for photo frames, gems and stones for the students to glue on and make a special frame for their kindergarten graduation photo. Since my students are a diverse and multicultural group, we need construction paper and crayons that reflect their true skin tones! I have also asked for foam shapes and letters so that we can create art projects that also help my kindergarteners practice learning their shapes, colors, and spelling skills. Finally, I asked for paper and glue so that we can stick it all together and put it on display!

My kindergarteners are at an age where they are interested in engaging and hands-on activities.

In a day and age where fine arts are constantly being cut from the curriculum, I feel responsible for picking up the slack and providing my students with as many opportunities to combine art and the main subjects within our classroom as possible. Having these art supplies will allow me to create numerous arts-based lessons and activities for my kindergarteners!
