My Students
My students are learning Korean as their second language. Most of my students are not Korean. They are learning Korean to fulfill their foreign language credits in order to receive a high school diploma. I also teach second and third-generation Korean Americans.
My students come from all parts of Queens with various economic, educational, cultural and language backgrounds.
They learn the Korean language, culture, and heritage in my class and we need a lot of resources since the city budget is very tight on education.
My Project
I am planning a fun art project for the March first movement lesson. I have been making Korean flags and tried different ways to teach students Korean history using the project-based learning methodology. This year, I want to try something new for my students. Each student will design their pencil case with a Korean flag on one side and their own cultural heritage on the other side so they can appreciate Korean culture as well as their own cultural background. Then, we will have a gallery walk upon completion of the project.
