Help me give my students stories that represent them, their culture, their community, and their world. In light of all that is going on in our world, now more than ever we need to meet this urgent need.
Help me give my students books that bring us together and teach us about acceptance and understanding.
My students are creative, fun-loving, and very enthusiastic about learning.
They would benefit from a variety of books that support cultural awareness. As of March 17th, my students have been learning at home. School will be closed due to the COVID-19 virus for the rest of the school year and possibly into the next school year. This presents a challenge, as most of my students do not have access to these books that support their social-emotional health and bring an understanding of our world as a whole and connect us together. Now more than ever before, this work is critical.
My Project
A culturally diverse classroom library is important! My students need to hear stories that represent them, their culture, their community, and their world. In light of all that is going on in our world, now more than ever we need to meet this urgent need.
In our increasingly diverse society, it’s more important than ever for teachers to incorporate culturally responsive instruction in the classroom.
Fostering inclusion and awareness around multicultural education and taking a culturally responsive approach to teaching benefits all students. These books will create greater multicultural awareness and promote inclusion to help students with different backgrounds and needs succeed. While encouraging acceptance and helping to prepare students to thrive in an exponentially diverse world.
