My Students

Welcome to my classroom! My students are all in Special Education. They are faced with many challenges including educational labels, disabilities, poverty, and social challenges that come with being people of color. I focus on teaching my students how to be tenacious while building literacy and school success skills.

Energetic, lively and diverse-young people preparing to be independent, productive members of society.

My students are all juniors or seniors in high school that are working on gaining life-long literacy skills and preparing for graduation to help them achieve their post-secondary goals.

My Project

Knowledge is POWER. How do we gain knowledge? By reading. Please help my students develop their knowledge and power through reading. Scholastic magazines will help students gain knowledge and power by working on their reading skills. These magazines will not only encourage them to practice their reading skills but provide them with information about current events and the world around them. These magazines are filled with engaging, interesting articles as well as useful comprehension and critical thinking activities such as crossword puzzles, readers theatre and platforms for debates. By having enough copies for each student, students will get to have their own magazine. This is important for students who don't have a lot to call their own. They can also take the magazines home, share it with younger siblings or do their magazine assignments in other locations if they're struggling learning in the classroom that day because, well, life...
