Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The students in my class have not yet realized the power of knowledge; I always tell them, "Knowledge is Power!" I want them to take charge of their education by learning more and asking more questions. I would love for them to read, read, read because I feel that this is where it all begins.
I work in a school that is located in a low socioeconomic area where our students are minorities.
Most of them are below their reading level and struggle to be successful. Despite their struggles, they come to school on a daily basis and put forth their best effort.
The books I am requesting will be part of my classroom library. This is my first year as a teacher and I have been working on expanding my library. I have very little books available for my students. Most of my 6th grade students do not own books and cannot visit the library due to their parents busy work schedule. That is why it important for me to have books at school for them to easily check out for long periods of time. Our school strongly encourages students to read and has a huge focus on building their reading levels. I constantly encourage my students to read and award them for it. Reading is the foundation of learning, and when they learn, they have the power to be successful.
My Project
These books would be a huge help to me and most importantly, to my students! If they are able to have more options available, I am hoping they will find a book to ignite their desire to read. All I want is for them to truly enjoy a great book so that they become excited to read another book. This is where it all begins...
"The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go." -Dr. Seuss
As I said, "Knowledge is Power!" I want them to become empowered individuals that will take charge of their education and be successful.
