My classroom is set in a semi-rural town in North Carolina. I am part of the Freshmen Academy and teach environmental science. The students in my class are a very diverse group, racially, socio-economically, and educationally. My goal in the classroom is to make science fun and nurture my students curiosity of their surroundings in science.
I recently went to a teacher's conference and was exposed to student response systems. These are individual remotes for each student that allows them to interact with the material. For example, while giving a PowerPoint lesson, I can ask the class a question and each student can key in their response. I can then hit a button to display a graph of the classes answers. I found out that the school has such a system, but is not being used because the batteries are dead, and expensive to replace.
I am asking for enough batteries to get the remotes up and running and to keep them that way throughout the year. I foresee these response remotes as an extremely valuable tool in captivating the minds of my students, and we are so close to being able to utilize them. We just need batteries.
Our goal of using these remotes is so close... we just need your generosity to get us going. In a world of constant electronic distraction, we are trying to use electronics in a way that connect with the students in a powerful and meaningful way. This will transform my classroom and how I teach. We need you to give us the power (literally) to use this resource.
