Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are an amazing group of active learners! They come to school eager to learn with unique modalities, and absorb information from their learning experiences in the classroom, connections they make to real-world experiences, and pro-social relationships they develop with their peers.

These dynamic students are inquisitive and developing young problem-solvers relating to their learning environment in collaboration with their peers.

My students are all English Language Learners of various levels. They participate in a daily Reading Foundations Intervention Academies program and benefit from many opportunities for rigorous academic discussion with strong language support throughout the day. One thing I love about my students is their constant thirst for knowledge and discovery!

My Project

Grade level standards show that students develop foundational reading skills and have the opportunity to master them by 2nd grade. Our goal is for students to read to learn content beyond the primary grades. By 3rd grade, students will need to have strong phonemic awareness and phonics skills in order to tackle higher level reading passages and vocabulary. Transitioning my early readers to strengthening their vocabulary and reading comprehension skills by teaching various reading strategies is critical to their overall reading proficiency.

When I give my students reading skills and strategies practice in game format and collaborative tasks, they increase their reading levels, confidence, and ownership of their learning.

With this set of reading cards and games, students will be able to extend their understanding of fiction and nonfiction text. They will extrapolate main ideas and details, make inferences, identify and use cause and effect relationships, and derive problems and solutions in written text. These sharpened skills will help students begin to develop arguments for their persuasive presentations and writing pieces and formulate opinions and facts to inform their audiences. I would greatly appreciate your support in helping me foster life-long readers and learners!
