My Project
Selling goods in the community is an excellent way for students with disabilities to gain valuable life skills. This activity can help them develop social and communication skills, as they will have the opportunity to interact with customers and learn how to effectively communicate with them. Additionally, they can learn how to handle money, manage inventory, and develop problem-solving skills when faced with unexpected situations. Participating in community sales can help boost their confidence and self-esteem as they see the impact they can have on others. They can also learn the importance of teamwork, as they work together to set up and manage the sales booth. The experience gained from selling goods in the community can translate to other aspects of their lives, such as future employment and independent living.
Overall, participating in community sales can provide students with disabilities with a valuable learning experience, helping them develop important life skills and gain confidence in their abilities.
The cart I have requested will be used as their "sales booth". Since it will be mobile, it will be easy to access places in our community that hold events such as football, basketball, baseball, and volleyball games, family nights, parent-teacher conferences, etc. Students will also be allowed to go around at the end of each week at a designated time and sell goods to the entire school. They will be given the aprons to wear as their uniform like other workplaces give a uniform or have a dress code. Clear bins will be used to help separate and organize the supply cart and we will use the money box to hold money and create change, which is also a math lesson. We will use the velcro dots to hang up visuals. All the drinks and food will be our supplies to sell.
