Knitting the Future: Accessible STEAM Creations with i‑Cord Machines

Help me give my students a hand knitting machine to make knitting accessible for all students.

FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Haponski's classroom raised $426

This project is fully funded

My Project

I teach a diverse group of high school learners, many of whom receive special education services for intellectual, physical, or sensory disabilities. Hands‑on, tactile lessons help them grasp abstract concepts and build confidence. When students can manipulate real materials, their engagement soars—and so do their smiles.

This project will equip our classroom with Tulip i‑Cord Knitting Machines and supportive supplies so students of all abilities can explore Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math (STEAM) through knitting.

The crank‑style machines turn yarn or wire into sturdy i‑cord tubes with minimal hand strength, making knitting accessible to students who struggle with fine‑motor or bilateral coordination.

Our first unit—“Knitted Wire Wall Décor: Part 1 – Bending the Wire”—lets students feed colorful craft wire through the i‑cord machine, then bend and mold their knitted tubes into names, shapes, and geometric patterns. From there we will expand into circuitry (conductive yarn), geometry (radius & diameter of knitted tubes), and artistic expression (color theory & negative space).

Your support will provide adaptive, multisensory tools that let every learner design, prototype, and display original work while practicing:
