I am starting a knitting club with my high school students this year. It is my hope to expose my students to talents they may not have known they possess. I want the students to walk away with a hand-made project to show to family and friends. Students will continue to knit after high school.
My students come from very diverse backgrounds.
Our school has a high Hispanic and Asian population. Many students "hang out" after-school because most parents are working long hours. Many students are in need of a constructive outlet for after-school hours.
My Project
I have requested materials to introduce students to the basics of knitting. I want to provide students with over 50 different skeins of yarns and all variety of colors to peek their interest in knitting. It is my ultimate hope that students will create projects they are proud to call their own. This is a life skill that students will be able to use long after high school.
I am asking for your help to fund the start up of the knitting club.
Eventually I would like to see the club partner with the school store. With proceeds from future sales, the club will become self sustaining.
