This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
This is a low-income and high-need, first grade classroom that is very interested in building and creating.
Last year these students loved to build with building blocks. They built wonderful and elaborate cities with motes and buildings. They also built ramps that they could release cars from that would send the cars across the rug. Now, that the students have changed classrooms the resource and space is no longer available. They are not longer able to use their creativity to build different things.
The students will really benefit by having a classroom set of K’nex. The K’nex are small enough to be stored in the room, but give the students the opportunity they deserve to create. This classroom set will help to foster these students’ imagination and encourage them to keep creating their masterpieces.
You can make it possible for these students to keep doing the things they love even though there is not much room. These students will be able to keep their creativity flowing and help to promote their interest in building mechanics and engineering, while still enjoying themselves.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
