This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Kneading dough is an excellent fine motor activity. It helps to build strength in little fingers so when they begin writing, the task is not as daunting as it would have been had student's not built their strength.

In addition to fine motor development, using dough to build letters can assist us with learning directionality, letter formation, as well as building knowledge of the alphabetic principal.

With these activities, students will be able to work on letter formation and building high frequency words.

Many of my students come from families who work all day. This means, our students are needing to learn many foundational skills at school. Many of our students get picked up in the evening, so when they get home it's time for dinner then bed. There's no time to play with things that help us with our fine (or large) motor development. It's essential for teachers to provide these opportunities for our students.
