My kindergarten students amaze me every single day. They love being at school and learn so much. We teach reading, writing, math, STEM, and SEL. Some of the most basic lessons in life skills are hard to classify but so important.
Kindergarten students go through a lot of Kleenex in a year due to runny noses from allergies, colds, and flus.
Many Kindergartners get every cold and flu that they are exposed to because this is their first group educational setting and their immune systems aren’t yet strong.
One of those life skills that I teach our students is how to blow their noses. “Cover your nose. Press one nostril closed. Blow out through the other. Pinch the tissue. Fold it to cover the yuck. Cover your nose. Press the other nostril closed. Blow again. Pinch the tissue. Repeat until clear. Wipe off your nose and face if needed. Throw tissue away. Sanitize.” We model and practice together. In this way we hope to stop the spread of colds and flus in the classroom.
