Being that most incoming kindergarten students have never been to our school, every year offers new and exciting challenges and experiences for them as well as our teachers.
What is NOT new and exciting is running out of important necessities soon into the school year.
The fact of the matter is, tissues are not provided by the schools and crayons are depleted school-wide within or before the first half of the year is done.
Now more than ever, we need to have ample tissues available for students and staff alike. There's nothing worse than having to use those rough paper towels for a runny nose.
Many of these 5-year-olds aren't quite yet adept at managing their supplies yet and this tends to lead to broken and paper-peeled crayons. While we teach this new skill, it is a wonderful experience to be able to supply the students with a fresh set of crayons every quarter or two. This huge box set of crayons is an excellent buy at just 50 cents per 8 pack (includes red, yellow, green, blue, brown, black, orange and purple). This will definitely last the year and probably even two or more.
Offering a little snack has proven to be effective in tiding these little ones over until the end of the day. It gives them a moment to decompress from the rigors of working all day (most of our students still want to nap around lunch time) as well as giving them a little boost of energy to get to the home stretch. A graham cracker is the perfect little snack. It's safe for most allergies and easy to provide and easy for them to eat on the go.
