My Project

Our class is requesting multiple food preparation items to increase cooking knowledge and life skills in the school environment! We will be learning how to preserve fruits and vegetables, emphasizing reducing waste and extending food usability by using the Food Dehydrator. We will be learning hands-on skills by practicing cutting, dicing, and slicing using plastic knives and cutting boards.

Using tools like a food dehydrator, crockpot, and pizza maker in a special education Independent Skills for Living Class helps students learn practical cooking skills, independence, and healthy habits.

Our class is all about teamwork! We encourage sharing, collaboration, and expressing ideas when students make recipes together, practicing communication and social skills. We emphasize independence and building essential skills for future self-sufficiency in meal preparation.

Our class will also be learning how to research recipes and combine ingredients in a Crockpot (Slow Cooker). This will help teach students how to prepare meals with minimal effort by combining ingredients and letting the appliance do the work and encourage planning by requiring preparation in advance and setting timers for long cooking periods throughout the school day.

Our class will also be customizing recipes using a Pizza maker and will allow students to learn about choosing and combining ingredients, from dough to toppings! Our class learns, shares, and creates on a weekly basis fostering creativity in each individual.
