Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students have come into high school behind grade level. But these students are not quitters. We have a strong culture of achievement, and encourage all students to prepare for and apply to college.
Were you to walk down the halls of my school, you might think you are in the United Nations.
We have students from five continents (and more than that number of islands) representing a diverse array of languages and cultures. My students are a mix of new immigrants and native born Americans. All of them want to succeed.
My Project
I am requesting a bundle pack of 3Doodler pens and related supplies. The 3Doodler heats and extrudes a bead of molten plastic which cools and hardens almost immediately, allowing students to "draw in the air" with plastic, creating a 3 dimensional creation by adding layers.
I'm most intrigued about the possibilities of tactile learning that this equipment allows.
We will be able to create tactile examples of some abstract mathematical ideas, which students will be able to see and touch. It will also allow me to add a level of computational thinking, as we create systems assembled from pieces made by different students, perhaps in different classes. The will lend a concrete aspect to my frequent requests that students make themselves clear and unambiguous.
I try to bring all my students to a level that prepares them to continue their education in college. I try to make sure a lack of supplies won't hold them back, and, as much as possible, I try to introduce technology and real-world situations to their studies. By funding this project, providing a 3Doodler bundle, you will help my students get ready for the world.
