King Series and Technology Together Will Help Us Read
My students need the "Kings Series" guided reading books, "Kings Series" teachers edition for targeting lessons and skills and 3 iPod Touches to become proficient readers.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Do you remember how much fun it was to learn to read? The feelings of pride and accomplishment you felt when you became a fluent reader? I want all my students to feel that way. I want nothing but success and proficient readers. 2nd grade is the last chance they have to acquire these skills.
My students live in an impoverish inner-city neighborhood.
Where crime is high and high school graduation rates are low.
Students come to school with little or no English. They live with very little, they grow up with no books or educational toys at home. Many of them come to school to feel safe and eat. It's sad to know that for many their only meals are what they receive at school. The only way for them to better their lives is to break the illiteracy cycle and get an education. Unfortunately they are surrounded by gangs, drugs, and domestic violence. Yet, it is amazing how hard they try to learn and besides all their hard ships that they strive to be successfully.
My Project
I am requesting a variety of "King Series" books, a "King Series," teachers edition, and an iPod Touch to teach my students how to read. My students need "King Series" books because they are a perfect supplement to learning how to read phonetically. Students need practice reading and the "King Series" books are leveled to meet the needs of individual students. In addition having the teachers edition will help me target lessons to the specific needs of my students. The iPod Touch will be used to incorporate technology with the use of many reading apps such as Reading Practice, Phonics Sight words, and ABC phonics. The iPod will accelerate and make learning to read hands on and fun.
Please help bring these "King Series" books to deserving students.
Second grade is the last school year where the focus is on learning how to read. Statistics show that if they don't read by 9 they have a higher probability to drop out. Please join my efforts in giving these children a chance at success. Together we can break the illiteracy and poverty cycle one child at a time.
