My Students
My Ohio students are part of a literacy support program that helps struggling readers and writers gain the needed skills and strategies to become confident, independent learners.
Our students are enthusiastic, love to learn, have loads of potential, are diverse in many ways, and have some unique needs that keep me striving for fun and meaningful ways to accelerate their growth in reading and writing.
I thoroughly enjoy helping to foster a love of reading and writing that will benefit them for a lifetime.
My Project
My K-1 school is focusing on ways we can provide the best types of experiences for emergent readers. Learning letters, sounds, and high frequency words can be a challenge for some students. We are aiming to differentiate our instruction to include all types of learners.
During a recent professional development training course, I learned about the importance of providing an auditory and kinesthetic learning experience for young learners where they are involved in a daily, multi-sensory process to help them learn letters and words.
This process will enable us to meet the needs of our emergent readers. Notebooks with pockets and dividers will help me to organize materials, notes, plans, books, and other items used in our small group lessons.
