My Students

Experiencing high school can evoke every emotion: fear or joy, angst or optimism, and sometimes all of these at once! Our classroom is a great place to begin learning about the outside world and how to be the best person possible in it. Each student is unique, from young athletes and artists to students with individual learning plans and young leaders. We're the fourth most diverse high school in the nation, and it shows in my classes!

My students are immersed in a journey that will culminate in college, leadership, citizenship, and life.

I want to prepare them to be the best readers they can possibly be, the kindest friends they wish they had, and heroes that their families and friends can be proud to know. High school can be difficult, but this is our chance to start on the right path. I want to recognize each student for their hard work during this difficult time.

My Project

Octavia Butler is not just the queen of science fiction; her historical fantasy Kindred allows us to ask important questions about ourselves and the world. Seniors in high school wonder, do I matter? Does my background matter? Do my choices matter?

Reading graphic novels together helps us discuss the big issues students face.

I have more seniors than ever before and with your help, I would like to share an important novel with them. Every student is welcome in my class and this novel really does support every learner. We want to learn and grow, this year and beyond.
