This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My kindergarten students are just learning how to collaborate with one another. Collaboration is a skill they are struggling with because they are new to social emotional learning. My students will be able to practice social skills, such as taking turns, sharing, personal responsibility, and working as a team with the supplies and classroom books generously donated from Arizona's Department of Education. The math Dive into shapes allows students to work in partners to construct 2d and 3d shapes with a model. Our classroom books will be perfect for practicing how to be responsible and safe in our classroom. We will be partner sharing what being respectful, responsible and safe looks like in our classroom as well as acting out scenarios of what it should look like. The magnetic math tins will be very helpful in math intervention and center time to build number sense. Working with a partner using these centers also allows for collaboration, sharing results and will be used for assessing students learning. The magnet building blocks are perfect for task cards building 2d and 3d shapes. In addition, we will be using them for stem projects involving the books by Adam Wallace (eg. How to Catch a Leprechaun, dinosaur, and other titles). Students will be collaborating to build traps to catch the character in the book and presenting their ideas to the class. We are hopeful to use the magnetic letter kit in classroom center and intervention activities for letter and sound recognition as well as word building. These resources will not only allow them to collaborate together, but they will also be able to take charge of their own learning with these centers and practice essential social emotional learning strategies.
