This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
According to the National Science Foundation, " To succeed in this new information-based and highly technological society, students need to develop their capabilities in STEM to levels much beyond what was considered acceptable in the past."
I work with an amazing group of children who are eager to learn.
I enjoy seeing the excitement in their eyes when we get ready for school every day. My students come from diverse backgrounds which makes them unique. Many of my students come from low-income families; however, they are the best kids on the planet.
My Project
With bullying reaching epidemic proportions, spreading kindness seems to be more important than ever before. Most children spend the majority of their day in a classroom with other kids—what better place to promote being kind to others than right there?
Science explains that the good feelings we experience when being kind are produced by endorphins that activate areas of the brain that are associated with pleasure, social connection and trust, and it’s proven that these feelings of joyfulness are contagious, encouraging more kind behavior by the giver and recipient.
We have started a kindness ritual. At my school, our goal is to say five nice things to five different people each day. Also, we have a kindness box, in this box, students have the opportunity to highlight their peers. For example, every time someone does something nice for you that makes you feel good, write in on a note and put it in the box. Thus, I am asking for prizes to encourage positive behavior such as fidget toys.
The purpose of this program is to improve student behavior and thereby academic outcomes by developing, fostering, and reinforcing positive behavior. Statistics indicate that there is a direct correlation between student behavior and academic performance.
