Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

As the school counselor at an Equity Focus School, I have the privilege of guiding our Kindness Club—a group of passionate and empathetic student leaders who are dedicated to creating a more positive, inclusive, and connected school environment. This project supports their mission to lead student-driven initiatives that not only spread kindness within our building, but also extend compassion and encouragement to our broader community.

Our students will take the lead in organizing monthly kindness campaigns such as “Compliment Week,” “Thank a Staff Member Day,” “Kindness Bingo,” and “Community Appreciation Month.” In addition to engaging their peers through schoolwide events and creative outreach, they will extend their efforts beyond the classroom—recognizing custodial teams, cafeteria workers, bus drivers, and even organizing thank-you notes and care messages for local first responders, community volunteers, and families.

The iPad will be essential to helping students bring their ideas to life. With it, they’ll be able to design digital flyers, create video shout-outs, record student interviews, and capture photos of kind acts happening around campus. They will also create digital thank-you presentations and announcements that can be shared during morning broadcasts, family nights, and community outreach events.

The community we serve includes every member of our school family—students across all grade levels, teachers, staff, and families—as well as members of our surrounding neighborhood. Many of our students face emotional, social, and financial hardships, and leading these campaigns empowers them to create meaningful change and foster a culture where everyone feels valued, supported, and seen.

This project aligns with the Spread Kindness goal of the Allstate Foundation’s Service Stars initiative by helping students take purposeful action to build a more caring and inclusive school and community. With your support, our Kindness Club members will become leaders of change—spreading hope and connection, one kindness at a time.
