My students need two Kindles to continue their love for reading. These Kindles would allow for instant books and could be taken home to continue reading.
My classroom is made up 4th/5th graders who absolutely love to read. I am always looking for more material to encourage their love of reading while deepening their critical thinking skills, vocabulary, and comprehension. The school district that I teach in has a low-income rate of over 70%, as well as a mobility rate of more than 30%. When I see my students enjoying a book, and they want to continue with the next book in a series, I want to provide every opportunity I can. Kindles in the classroom will help increase reading engagement and motivation.
My Project
My students love to read! Often times, my students will finish a book in a series, and immediately ask for the next book. By the time I receive the next book, if I am able to purchase it, students have moved on to another book. With a Kindle, I would be able to instantly download books for students so that they can continue their love of reading right then and there. These Kindles would also be able to go home with students so that they have reading material with them. These Kindles do not have the ability to download apps, ensuring all "screen time" is spent on reading.
