My Students

My students include over 100 6th graders that come to my class for English Language Arts and Social Studies.
Being able to work with small groups is crucial for their ELA development. My class does not have the resources to allow students to work independently in small groups, while others are receiving small group instruction. Our very limited resources do not allow students to work collaboratively together. With 1.5 VERY limited student computers, my students are unable to research, learn through "web quest", have books read to them to build fluency or have the mobility of shared learning through cooperative group work. These students are eager to learn and create, however, we are in a school district that does not have the funding to provide these opportunities.
My Project
My students will use the 5 Kindles in a multitude of ways. They will use them as small group readers and fluency builders. They will use them to create story boards and projects. They will provide an opportunity to research and put their research to use in the classroom. In addition, they will allow students to experience "WebQuests", educational podcasts and to visit a variety of places without the expense that comes along with field trips.
This project will bring a technological update to our classroom, provide a multitude of different and varied learning experiences, and allow students to independently learn, research and experience on their own and in groups.
