Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Every morning, our students walk into our ELA class buzzing and energetic, ready to learn. They come with questions, deep insights, and bright ideas. Many of our students read below grade level, which undoubtedly affects their desire and motivation to read. As we all know, reading is fundamental.

Living in what was once considered "the poorest congressional district in the country", otherwise known as the South Bronx, our students face more challenges than some people we may know.

Our school serves a population where 95%+ of the students receive free lunch and come from low-income neighborhoods. Despite the challenges they may face outside of our walls, they give school their all and try their hardest every day.

My Project

Having a set of Kindle Fire e-readers would be great to reach more of our reluctant readers. It would expand our classroom library to include e-books that are not only more readily available, but also free!

Technology - Count me in!

We hold Literature Circles every school year. This small set would rotate for every student to read from at least once. Not only would our English Language Learners and Students with Disabilities benefit, but every student would! Giving students the chance to listen to e-audiobooks would help build their reading fluency and comprehension. These tablets will go far in our classroom!
